Bikes

At Winterborne a bicycle frameset is designed for you, with your consultation. During the design of the bike I take all your personal dimensions, and riding style and translate them to proper frame geometry. I can spec your new custom frame with favorite parts from a current, or past bike, as well i can offer new parts through any number of my suppliers.

At the moment Winterborne offers framesets (frame and fork) made of steel. The reasons for this are simple. Steel is quite simply the best material to make a bicycle from. The steel used in the production of Winterborne Frames is an iron/carbon alloy that, with the addition of several elements such as chrome, nickel, manganese, molybdenum, vanadium, etc., develops specific characteristics such as tenacity, fatigue resistance, workability and insensitivity to overheating. This material is generally referred to as Chomoly.

All Winterborne frames are handcrafted with high level of attention to detail, and accuracy. The frame tolerances set here at the shop are very tight and easily exceed what you would find on a retail showroom floor.

All framesets are produced using the highest quality tubing available to independent builders. The customer may recognize tube makers like True Temper, Columbus, and Dedacci. Lugged frames are made using Investment Cast lugs available from some of the best engineers, and lug designers in North America.

Fillet Brazed Frames are made with the eye of an artist, with swooping lines at tube intersections. These bikes are gorgeous and relieve the builder from the constraints of lug angles and lug specific tube diameters.

The great majority of the tooling in my shop is very specific to the bicycle manufacturing industry, using the right tools to produce your frameset is key to having a very straight frame that is made to your personal body geometry and design specifications. We use a Bridgeport Mill to perform all mitering operations, and used in conjunction with a bicycle specific mitering system the angles and lengths of the tubes on my framesets are extremely precise.

All frames and forks are produced one at a time. So when a frame is being produced one builder will see it through every process from the original design and consultation, to mitering and brazing, right through to all the tapping and threading. Paint is included in the price of the frameset however we let the specialists take care of the paint process, thereby ensuring a top quality paint job that will protect your frame, and look awesome for years.

Your selections in paint are 4 different layouts, with a choice of 6 colour combinations for each layout. I’m proud to say that all paint and graphics have been designed by Derek McLeod, a graduate of OCAD. The inside of the steel tubes are also treated with "Frame-Saver", this provides added insurance that your frame will be around for years. The top tube is set aside for you, traditionally this is an area where the bicycle model name is displayed, however because each Winterborne bike is unique, there really is no specific model name, so you can call it what you want, be it your name, nickname, favorite food, whatever…I’ll have it painted on there for you.

Along with the Design, Production, and Paint of your new Winterborne frameset, you will also get mechanical support! So if you need any advice as to what parts and accessories will work properly with your new frame, and if you want your bike built up here I can handle that for you free of charge!

At Winterborne I also have a comprehensive stock of parts. If you want that Cris King headset, or that Thompson seat post for your new frame I can get it for you. As an added feature with your frame, a Winterborne customer will receive an MSRP discount on any and all parts you might want for your new Winterborne frameset.
